320MXn full screen aspect problem
« on: July 21, 2010, 10:04:21 AM »
My company just purchased four 320MXn displays. I designed screen for them, set aspect ratio to full since some videos are in 4:3 format and we want them stretched to full screen, but they are still played in 4:3 format!? I copied this same content to a P50HP plasma and it plays just as it should, stretched to full screen. Any ideas since I am clueless?

P.S. I could reencode problematic videos to desired aspect ratio but would like to avoid it of course.

I don't think you are making yourself clear mrmrva; perhaps this is why members of this forum do not answer. What do you mean by 4:3 aspect ratio? The monitor will scale everything to its full image. In the template design, you can define your aspect ratio before you post it over the LAN.

I mean square not widescreen, resolution of problematic videos is 720x576. The problem is that 320MXn monitor won't scale these videos to its full image size. I tried the same content on P50HP display and on it plays just as it should, stretched to full display size. I hope it is clear now, english is not my native language.

And here is part of my scn file, ratio is set to full:

Until now I have been reencoding videos because of this problem but would like to solve this. I've attached images to make it more clear.
This is how original video (720x576 resolution) looks on display inspite the fact that when I designed the screen in MIP I've specified aspect ratio to FULL:

And this second picture show what I want without the need to reencode video:

Hi, I have tried this and when I set the option to 'full' the area I have created is filled completely with both 16 x 9 and 4 x 4 videos so by changing the width or height I can set the viewable format to landscape or portrait. It appears that your screen will not do this? I am using .mpg files if that helps-what type are your videos?

Well I can't really remember with which file types I have tested, it has been some time, but yesterday I tested it again with newest client version and H264 file (that is MPEG4 with MP4 extension, I encode them all to that format now.)

EDIT: I see in my old post in part of a scn file I have posted that I have tested it with .avi also.

Hi mrmrva

I have just tried the same thing with a video file as you and it fills the space as fluidium says when set to -full-

I wonder if your client may require a different video codec so that it can display different ratios correctly.. other than that I have not come across this before. Sorry I can't be of more help.
