Is it necessary to leave the server on all the time?

Is it necessary to leave the server on all the time?

In our system, the pc which we use as a server is only switched on for one day in the week.  It is only necessary to update the display every few months.  We find that sometimes (perhaps fortnightly,) the samsung logo appears on the client and it is necessary to publish the schedule again.
When setting up the client, one of the connection options is:
"Automatic connection.  Selecting Automatic connection using server name will have the display automatically poll the network looking for the specified Magiclnfo Pro server."  Does this mean that the client randomly goes looking for the server and if it can't find it, it will display the logo?
If this is the case, is it possible to stop the client looking for the server, and just accept a fresh download when it is published?  We really don't want to leave the server pc on unless we have to.

Nolly, there is no need to have the server always on and running provided you have issued the schedule and it is published, then you can turn the server off. The displays will always obey their schedule, and it default in its player logo when it finishes.

By the way, only when you stream content you will need to leave the server running all the time (obviously...)

Thanks Bill.

Any thoughts as to why the client randomly just stops displaying?  As I said we would set up the display with a schedule for a couple of months at a time but it never lasts for more than a week or two.

What do you have set for "Set the default period of the publishing schedule" in server software? Tools->Options->Schedule
This was giving me a lot of headache.

Hi

as mrmrva correctly suggests it could be the schedule default period is shorter than the time you have scheduled. This would mean you would have to publish more frequently or increase the schedule default time. A quick way to check what schedule the server has published is to VNC to the client and check the schedule file on the D: Drive using notepad to view it..

We always set our default period of the publishing schedule on the server to 365 days which is the maximum.

I have changed this setting and tried this for a few weeks now.  Seems to have done the trick.  Thanks,
