Publishing notices each day - How to!
« on: November 18, 2009, 10:48:23 AM »
Hi all,

Can anyone help me! We have just installed a magic info pro and are working through how it can be used by our office staff on a daily basis. The one thing we cant work out is the best way to display day to day notices and reminders. The only way I can think to do it to edit the screen each day, save it, import it to the schedule and publish it, but these seems a very long way around and alot to do each morning!  ???

Can any one help us!

Many thanks

I would think the best way would be to use the ticker function included with the screens-this can overlay a moving text message (top or bottom of display) of any length on any individual screen or all screens and can be updated by a user instantly. It can also be set to expire after a set time when announcements are no longer relevant. The function lasts for up to 24 hours and automatically expires after this to ensure no out of date messages are shown. We use this with a background colour set as transparent does not seem to run smoothly and it can be difficult to make out words against a moving background.

The way we update content, hope it helps.

We primarily use photoshop. Set an image area on the screen you want this daily changing content. Then just edit your photoshop file and save it as a jpeg for the sigh to use. Once you have your screen setup and published just keep over writing this file with the new content which is easily added in photoshop if your familiar with using layers in it. You can then just publish again and the new image is sent to the sign. Or setup under tools, options, general tab - then setup the content sync times.

Ron is right, but you can do further enchancements if you choose to stream the JPG file. This would mean if you have a ever changing JPG file, then you do not need to keep plublishing again, as the template will launch the same JPG (as it is registered) but with its new content. The problem here is that the server has to be constantly available.

Ron, can you check and see if that works for you?

Bill,

Steaming works great. As soon as the image does a refresh or is set to be displayed again it shows the new image.

claire1342 ,

To stream a jpeg change the following. Under the preferences of the jpeg screen area you will see "Screen". Under "Screen" you will see "Photo File" which is where you put in your images.  On the right side you will see the image file listed and in the second box you will see "transfer mode". Change this to "Stream" and save your screen. Now it will stream the file to your signs which will allow you to update the file at will without having to republish. Just make sure the jpeg area is set to refresh every so often.
