Title: Video on Magicinet system
Post by: tonywardle on October 01, 2009, 09:10:36 AM
Would anyone know why I can't play a video on a Magicnet LFD? Do I have to install some other software first?

Have you installed the necessary codec on the client screen-some video files need to be decompressed by the player agent before they can be displayed//  what format is the video you are trying to play?

We are trying to play a DVD but putting the files onto the screen doesn't seem to work, should we put a DVD player app onto the screen then somehow trigger it to play from the software?

Thanks

You could put an MPEG-2 decoder on the client to show video but you must 'rip' (convert) the original DVD to a single MPEG-2 file in order to send it to the screens ansd make it play.

The MagicInfo screens (used to be called MagicNet) are based on Windows XP embedded OS. It is up to you to load the appropriate codecs. I prefer to use K-Lite or DivX. Sometimes you need to load the codec or plugins by launching the Microsoft Media player and then all is OK.

yes, you need to put the codec onto the display screen.

Thanks everyone-we managed to upload an .avi and that seems to be playing ok-we haven't done anything else?  One of out tech guys says it plays because media player has the correct codec built in-anyway he is going to transfer the video into mpeg 1 which he reckons will play ok and is smaller than the .avi  It's quite a long video at 23 minutes but he says there may be a slight quality loss-any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
