Title: MagicNet X client displays crashing
Post by: dadams on February 09, 2012, 10:43:49 PM
We have a mixed network of 20 MagicNet/MagicInfo displays.  They have been running for years from a MagicNet X server sending out a JPG slide show.  The older displays are 400Pn/460Pn series and the newer models are 460Fpn/460Fpn-2 series.  I had to downgrade the software on the newest displays to MagicInfoPro 2503, so they would be compatible with the MagicNet X server.

Unfortunately starting this month, the older displays are suddenly crashing within a couple minutes of connecting to the server and displaying slides.  The server and newer displays continue to run the scheduled slides.  If you reboot an older display, it re-connects to the server but then crashes again after a couple minutes.  Here is the text of the error message from the onboard Windows XP event log:
-
The description for Event ID ( 26 ) in Source ( Application Popup ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Beethoven-II: MagicNet.exe - Application Error, The instruction at "0x00485195" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".

At first I thought it must be a calendar related bug, but after rebooting everything and rolling the server back to a previous year, the behavior remains exactly the same.  I've been asking Samsung for assistance, but so far have not received any assistance.  It seems that MagicNet software is no longer supported...

I've tried installing the MIP 2503 client on the older displays.  It installs OK, but does not run... possibly due to the limited 256mb RAM on the older MagicNet displays.  I've been trying to find an older version of the MagicInfoPro client software, but so far have not had any luck.

Any suggestions would be most welcome! :)
thanks,
