Title: Change Computer name - reverts back to defaults? (urgent)
Post by: wimpydimpy on April 22, 2013, 01:05:32 PM
Hi

I have 43 monitors to take care about.
I need to rename them each, and with 20 I did.

The same operation failed on the other.

1. Log on with remote desktop
2. Change name (via standart XP procedure) to non-OEM default
3. go to cmd, ewfmgr c: /commit
4. restart the machine with shutdown.exe i got from another pc

Where do I go wrong with this?

It worked out well on half of them, and where it worked - the permissions on C: and D: are default,
no Full Controls or anything, just full access to the root of the drive, nothing more...

Any help will be appreciated!

We had a similar problem renaming screens and found you must commit before clicking the second "ok" confirmation otherwise the system would reboot and the changes were not saved.

Another way is to turn off the ewf, reboot, make the changes required, reboot, turn the ewf back on, then commit.. but it's a long process for twenty screens..

Hope it helps.

A big thanks dude.

I see your post a bit late, but it'll help the other guys around.

I have found what made the screen boot with the new name and then return to the automatic name:

If you can't see the picture - under the System setup page - click automatic name - DISABLED.

or if you enter a computer name it will automaticaly go to disabled state. Pressing save restarts the monitor and applies the new name.
20 names changed with that approach.

Once again - thanks :)
