Title: Displaying a source from a box
Post by: Scott on October 27, 2009, 12:03:48 AM
Hi, i'm trying to get a source (such as AV,DVI) to display from an area box.  The source will be playing in this box with hopefully other media, such as a webpage and office documents.  I have heard this is doable but can't seem to get this to work, can can someone shed some light?
We have a 520DXn running the magicinfo server 2507.

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott, create a source area box then choose the hardware input source from the source list eg HDMI BNC Composite.. Then plug a souce such as a sat box into the chosen input on the screen and voila-it should appear with your other content  :D

Thanks for the reply fluidium, but I?m still having some trouble.  I've confirmed that the input works full screen when I simply change source on the display, but when i try it in an area box I get "NOT AVAILABLE".
I have also in fact cycled through all the available sources the area box has, but still no luck.  I've checked that I scheduled the right file at the right time since i see the other updates I?ve made.  I have also tested with only 1 area box displaying from a source, in case some of the other content was conflicting.

Scott, I am afraid you cannot do this on the 52" monitor :-( It uses a different video scaller than the normal DXn units. Only the 40", 46" and 57" can do it.....

so should a 400MXn-2 be able to show content in a window using a HDMI source, as im having the same issue i can view the HDMI picture fine when selecting that input on the TV, but when using magicinfo-pro, i cannot create a HDMI source area window and get any picture, just a black screen.

Help...

Kyle.

The answer is NO I am afraid! Only the 40, 46 DXn and 40, 46 UXn units you can have PIP (Picture In Picture). This was a major issue for me, so I only have DXn and UXn units where I need to use the PC input and HDMI for setting PC Stats and also Sky on the HDMI. No other unit will do that I am afraid.

Hi again, i now have the new 46DXn panels, and i can see that they have PIP capability, however i cannot get magic info to show the source boxes. i can see in magic info in the settings area that the PNP is OFF and i can select from the drop down box to change the size etc, but it just goes back to Off.

Does the PNP need to be disabled on the Panel for Magic info to be able to use it, .. samsung have just replace all my MXn panels to DXn panels to resolve this issue, but i am still having issues...

any clues ?

sorry should be more specific....

We have had our 6 460MXn-2 TV's Swapped out to 460DXn-2 as the orignals could not do PIP via MagicInfo, Now Samsung have replaced these panels with new ones. We can now inject a PIP source via Magicinfo but only ANALOGUE, ie PC, COMPOSITE and Component, we STIILL cannot inject a HDMI source via MAGIC info.  it keeps coming up with "Not Available" when you first publish the screen then just goes blank. I have tried multiple sources of HDMI ie Bluray Set top box and sat boxes. all the same, i can however inject HDMI in PIP if i have PC as the source on the panel locally and then use PIP but not when using magicinfo...

Any Thoughts

I have had a reply from Samsung, which i really just dont understand,

i put to them the issue i presented here, ie not being able to have a source window on a template and inject HDMI on template. and getting the "Not Available"  My Understanding was that the 46DXn-2 were infact capable of this? this is there reply.

Thank you for your email.
Unfortnately, 460DXn-2 model is unable to support PIP on the DVI and HDMI source with MagicInfo source becuase of hardware limitation.
Sorry for inconvenience caused.

Best regards,
Justin Choi

Ok, so i sent a follow up email..

Are you able to confirm if there is any model that will allow HDMI to be used as a windowed source within Magic Info, I find it strange that you can select it as an available source when creating templates only to be told it?s a limitation on the Panel. These Panels are Brand new and were provided by Samsung directly to replace the MXn-2 Panels we had due to this exact problem.

Reply.

Unfortunately, we do not have any model which support PIP on the HDMI source with MagicInfo source. Because, MagicInfo soucre are using same HDMI line internally.

I have to say.. WTF ?? why would you use that port when there is only one anyway, why not use the DVI port and let people inject a HDMI source... i dont know if this is true, but surely a SENIOR ENGINEER would make this  *CENSORED*  up.... WAY  to waste 50 grand on TV's that were promised to be able inject PIP, and stupidly i thought, oh that must include HDMI.... End rant.. sorry. :'(

Hi there, we had some issues when we first got our 400 DXN screens trying to get HDMI to work. The solution I discovered was to reduce the output from the HD source to 720 instead of 1080. Since then we have had no issues. I really hope this helps you.

Hi

By the way can someone tell me how you wired the hdmi source to every single LFD Monitor?
Do you use hdmi amplifier or do you attach a set top box to every single LFD?

as far as i know it was also impossible to use one set top box and stream the TV program through the LAN using MagicInfo.

OK, let's clear some things up here as there seems to be confusion.

The DXn-2 units are able to display PIP (Picture In Picture) and in fact use a frame within the MagicInfo pro software to create a window within your digital signage content. This is not a problem at all. One of the sources that you can use is in fact HDMI. I have a DXn-2 unit in the canteen area of my company and part of the screen is using a SKY feed into it through HDMI and the rest I use for menus ect. This works very well.

Not sure I understand your comments by changing screens. The DXn-2 units are the best in terms of functionality and use. In fact if anything these are the screens I authorise to purchase.

I can send you a template with my own design if you want and get you going; let me know.

Thanks for they replies,

I will need to investigate this further, one more question, the size of the box on the template, does it need to be a specific dimension, ie does it need to be a 16:9 ratio or does it using scaling to fit to the window, we are running the monitors in Portrait mode and i am intending to inject the PAY TV feed into the bottom 1/3 of the screen. as for the HDMI source... i will revisit this as i am tending to believe this forum more than Samsung themselves... so just to Clarify, the "Not available" would be similar to the out of range you get on a monitor trying to out put a resolution its not happy with.

Kyle.

Hi Kyle, when we tried a hi def source originally the hdmi pip was just showing a black rectangle, I cant remember if it had a message but it's definitely worth a try at 720. We are running the screens in landscape mode with no issues, however these screens are the first generation 400 DXN with a resolution of 1366 x 768, I think your resolution may be a lot higher and I think the video scaler used is different so maybe Samsung are correct..

As to the pip size we drew a box with the correct 16 x 9 aspect ratio at the size we wanted on the screen and it worked without issue once we reduced the HD from 1080 to 720 from the source.

We are having the same issue, but with a 520DXn.  My first attempt was with a single full screen template in landscape, and the component source was connected to an HD Cablebox sending 1080i.  We got the "Not Available" as well.

I will try this evening the change to 720 from the cablebox.  There was a comment from Bill on the scaler being different on the 520 so only 400, 460 and 570 would work, which I just couldn't understand.

Has anyone gotten the component source to work on a 520DXn with HD material?  What tricks worked?  This was one of the key reasons we went with this model, and now it won't work.

What are the alternatives, in the Samsung, Magicinfo I or Pro series?

All help appreciated

Hi all, finally resovled getting a source injected, i ended up using component as the input, however now i have another problem, i run the tv in portrait mode, ie 1080x1920, now my problem is i can put the source window in my template, all content displays correctly with the exception that the source video is still playing in landscape and not in portrait, how do i rotate the video  so i can have it look correct in portait mode. i have tried resizing source window but it just scales the video but wont change the orientation.

Please help.... >:(

Ok, this is your problem.

There is no way a source could be in protrait mode. Remember it is a graphics card that does that and certainly I have not seen any SKY box or Freeview Tuner or a DVD Player that does that! You're asking your monitor to do something your source even cannot do. No wonder it is complaining!

EricL is right - it works for him because his unit is in landscape.
