Title: Monitor down - network ports - up issue (urgent)
Post by: wimpydimpy on March 14, 2013, 01:53:21 PM
Hello there,
We're having some issues here and I have to ask you about them   ;)

We have a LFD which is (possibly) powered off at the moment but keeps the network port up/up.
The monitor is not showing MAC address and can't be contacted. MIIP doesn't recognise it and it stays offline.

Is there a possibility that the NIC on the monitor is always on and keeps some kind of connection?
Has anyone had the same issue with the missing MAC address?

I hope for quick answers, this issue is really strange.

Out of 43 monitors, each on a different switch(switches have identical configuration), this is the only occurence...

Never had a missing mac, the power must be getting to nic if it is up, I think wol would mean the nic is always on even when the screen is powered down (standby), does the screen connect to the server  i.e. pinging the server from the screen?

We took the monitor to us, connected and everything works fine  :o

I observed that the NIC LED glows green without cable in it.
Once you attach a cable the orange fires up too, and starts blinking, as any other network device should.

Monitor is now connected to MIIP and all functionality is up to specs.
Network connectivity is fine for about a week now. I still wonder if any other monitor does this NIC glow thing?

When the screen is powered down the NIC has no connectivity, nor does it light up its green diode. The only active thing is the standby LED.
