Title: Video keeps looping!
Post by: marsdenprimary on January 24, 2011, 04:00:24 PM
Hi,

When I place a 7 minute video onto the screen area it plays for about a minute...and then loops! I'm a bit stumped. Anyone have any advice on how to fix this??

Hi

what format is the video? Have you got the correct codec installed? Have you set the start time/end time time of the movie area in your template correctly? Have you set "movie repeat" to "once"?

Hi EricL,

It's a WMV, the start and end points are 00:00:00 - 00:08:00. I set movie repeat to once to try it. The duration of my screen is the same as the duration of the video. It loops / stops at the same time each time...

Hope you can help!

It's going to TWO screens over LAN.

Ok, does it do this with all videos that you load into the template or just one?

Hi

If you remote into the screen and exit MagicInfo Pro back to Windows desktop can you play the video file from Windows.

Hmmm... I haven't tried that. Do I need to add the Magicinfo screens to our school domain before I do that? Or does this not make a difference?

Hi

If you go to the scheduel screen and can see your screen there in blue, right click on screen and you are given the option to remote conection to the screen.

Once remote conection to screen escape out of magicinfo pro goto d drive and then in the screen folder should be the files you schedueled to the screen. Try and run the video file and see what happens.

When you have finished goto the magicinfo pro icon next to the clock right click and then run to restart magicinfo pro.

Hi Toasty,

It plays fine...no looping in Windows Media player. Shall I try converting it to an MP4 or something? See how that goes?

Hi,

yes you can try converting it to another format, MP4 or AVI and then see what happens.

At least you know that you don't have a problem with the codec installed on your screen.

Pretty sure MP4 isn't supported.  What happens when you try and run the preview on the screen before you push it out to the schedule?

What are the odds - I ran into the same scenario with a WMV after I posted my comment  :o

I think I have it figured out though (at least this solution worked for me).  It looks like depending on how the WMV is encoded, payback gets cut.
I took my "bad" WMV file and ran it through Windows Movie Maker Live (the version that comes with Windows 7).  Basically all it did was take my "bad" WMV and save it as a different WMV file.  My best guess as to why this worked was that the two different WMV files used different CODECs.  A WMV file can be encoded in WMV1, WMV2, or WMV3.  My source file that didn't work was WMV2, the one that was reencoded was WMV3.

Hope that helps.

When I try the preview before pushing it out...it also loops! In particular the culprit WMV file that I was talking about earlier in the post. I tried it with an M4V file and it played on the local machine in preview all the way through. But when it plays on the remote screen (which it does play) it loops like the other video did. It just doesn't seem to want to play it all...
