Title: MagicInfo i server ....auto discovery (or otherwise) of connected nodes?
Post by: Perry Middleton on January 12, 2010, 01:53:53 PM
Hi All,

We are moving from MagicInfoPro to MagicInfo I server, but I am having a few problems on the initial install of the system. In the absence of much documented help within the package Im trying here  :) just in case anyone has had similar issues.

I have managed to get some test LDF content downloaded onto the server (into its default LDF contents storage location) from a seperate Authoring PC using the (MagicInfo I) Authoring app but the LDF files it has created and uploaded arent displayed for use anywhere within the server app as far as we can see. We have clicked every possible tab and button in an attempt to build an index structure of media and LDF content but with no luck, the magicinfoI server remains in a default state with no content apparent to publish out to the actual end nodes (lcd panels).

Thats the first problem. :P

Second problem is, again on the MagicInfo I server app, (logged in as admin with full rights) we cant see a way of discovering the various LCD Magic info panels which we have dotted around our Campus. So my question is:  Is there either an IP discovery aspect or perhaps a discovery by serial number ? We cant even find a way of manually adding the screens at this point! Im assuming that the correct place to add the LCD screens is in the admin tab under device mangement? All I get in there is "no data found" Im used to seeing auto discovery tools in similar server applications but this is proving to be a bit of a mystery so far, espessially as any kind of manual method of adding an ip or subnet seems to be missing too. Im guessing that the panels have to be registered to the server somehow but any instruction on how to do so seems to be elusive from within the package we currently have. Would there be any documentation for this aspect available anyewhere?

Thanks very much... ;D

Darn it....hate having to resort to the manual!

Hi, Sorry for repeated posts on the same subject....

Having read the manual a bit, it looks like I should be seeing automatically registered devices saved in the non-approval folder on the server.

There is of course, nothing waiting to be approved in the non-approval folder (I am logged in as admin) despite the inferance in the manual that this happens in an auto-discovery type way?

Am I missing something here. Do we for instance, need to put agents on all the panels or something?

Thanks in advance...

Perry

The MagicInfo i client must be running on the display before it registers to the server.  Once you see the MagicInfo Rubiks cube on the screen, check back with the server and if its configured properly, you should see it waiting for approval.

hi there, we also changed to magicinfo-i last week ,
well we first had to update the magicinfo-i client on the LFD itself , the exisiting one was 1005 , i then tried to update with no luck, some error msg came, then i uninstalled and installed the latest : SetupClient_Standard_v1006.0.exe

that worked, i was then able to set the settings on the client (ip adress of the server), and after that those were shown as "non approval" , you should make sure that the LFDs are ping-able , then you can work with dhcp or static ip , also a hint that you just create proper names if you find them in non.-approval then .

if the lfds are proper connected, you see the icons showing in color in the taskbar , there should be 2 icons of magicinfo-client next to the vnc symbol ...
also make sure you set the scheduler link in the player-options on the client , "periodically access to the scheduler" <- i got the version in german, so i dont know the english option ,

keep us updated with your problem

We have just done the same thing at Brixham College.  Removed the Magicinfo Pro software and installed Magicinfo-I Standard.
Servers running on a VM, and appears to function fine (can publish from the author and access the web interface).

I've installed a client on a SBB-NT (black box) but I cannot get it to communicate with the server.  Any ideas?
