CIFS Content
« on: March 31, 2017, 05:09:53 PM »
Hello,

I'm new here and we setup the MagicInfo Premium for our new location. Anyways long story short. Is there a trick to setting up CIFS? I've try different variation in MagicInfo. Username, hostname, shared folder path, but it keeps throwing Files not found or invalid path.

I've setup a shared folder on a Win 2012 server and I'm able to browse to it from a Windows machine. I've setup the permission on the folder where the user account has full access rights. What am I doing wrong?

We have been using CIFS content on 3 TV's for over a year and they were working fine.  Friday 3/31/2017 they are no longer updating from the network share.  Did troubleshooting all day Tuesday.  Recreated content.  Rebooted MagicInfo server.  Rebooted TV's.  Still no luck.  Anyone else having issues?

Was your issue resoled? I have the same problem setting up the CIFS content. Our CIFS share is configured without any password but its a required field within the MagicInfo software. I also tried using my domain account which has admin rights without any luck. Please Help!

Mikey,

We ended up switching from "CIFS" to "Upload Content".  I put the .ppt out on a shared network location.  When they update the PowerPoint file which is on the network share, they then go into Magic Info and "Delete" the old content and do a new "Upload Content" to have the new ppt running.

In order:

The end user updated the PowerPoint .ppt on the network share.
They log into Magic Info under accounts I made for them with limited access.
SCHEDULE:  They have to change their schedule running their ppt. to a .jpg that I put out for them while they are updating their "Content".  (It's just a placeholder while they are updating the Content).
CONTENT:  They delete their old Content file and upload the new Content (the .ppt they have saved on the network share).
SCHEDULE:  They go back to their schedule and change it to the new Content they have just uploaded.
We've been doing this for 5 location for over a year now since CIFS stopped working for us.

If you have any questions just let me know.  This was at first a learning curve for the end users involved but after I made a step by step guide for them they run with few issues.

Is it not easier to created a user with the rights to configure content items and with the version option under a content item to update the content item.

When this item is in use in a playlist and/ or schedule the change will flow in this.

You can find the version option when you open an item, in the pop-up screen click version and update file (see screenshot).

Kind regards Pepijn.
