I'm new to magicinfo pro, i've figured out how to run a powerpoint and schedule different shows.

i'm wondering if it's possible to copy one days schedule to the next?

Posted by EricL on Mar. 13 2009,2:36
Sure it is , highlight the day you want then right click on it, copy then paste it into the new day you want it to run.

if each day will be the same than change the occurrence to daily and change the end date in the bottom window on the schedule screen-let me know if you don't get it :-)

I'm having trouble selecting the day. where do i do that at?

i've tried on the schedule tab, but i can only select one cell. (i've tried on the daily monthly forms.)

Posted by Admin on Mar. 13 2009,7:08
By double clicking on your relevant screen field under 'periodic' you should get a series of options -choose 'daily', then doubleclick on your screen field under 'end on' this will bring up a calender, just click on the end date you require.
Posted by gerdau on Mar. 13 2009,7:12
That works...thanks for the help!

Hello,
it doesn't work on our 400dxn.
i can select a date on the little calendar after having activated "daily", but magicinfo doesn't keep the selected date after the calendar is closed.
does anyone know why ?

btw, our magicinfo pro is 2501.0

Posted by rhuets on May 25 2009,10:06
Hello,

i apologize for my english, but i am a french user.

i don't understand why scheduling a daily screen doesn't work.
the choosen end date is lost after i close the little calendar.

it seems it works on your magicinfo pro, so would you please tell me if:
- my 2501.0 release is ok or do i need to update ?
- my options settings must be changed ?

programming manually each day is really boring

Posted by EricL on May 26 2009,8:58
Right click on the scedule then copy & paste to new location (next day) or set the schedule to finish at the end of the next day using the calender and the application will autofill the scheduler.

Thanks, it works now, but only with the english sofware.
the french one doesn't work well.
thanks for your help

Sorry if this is a repost, but i could not find my original post on here.

1) what formats does magicinfo pro support?  i have been able to use avi, wmv, and jpg.  wondering about mp4 or mov.

2) file recognition.  i have a few jpgs to use, but only a few were successful in being put into the library, while others weren't.  has anyone else had this issue?  it seems you have to tweak the files (rename, move, etc) to work.

thanks,
jj

Hello all,

i just got off the phone with the samsung magicinfo pro tech support.

as for formats it supports, it will be anything that plays in windows media player + codecs.  quicktime will have to be converted or find a codec to run that.

as for file recognition, i could not get a definite answer from the tech support person.  he kept saying that it could be a property issue, which is the standard can answer to me because if created both jpgs using the exact same process both time, pointpoints as the original source then properties should not be an issue.

I have just found the on/off timer for the screen which is working quite well.

our screens do not need to be on at the weekends but i only see one particular time you can set.

is there anyway to have the screen come on at say 9am and off at 5pm mon-fri and stay off sat/sun?

with that i have found you can only enter one set and this would need to be manually done every friday to stop it coming on over the weekend and on monday to come on

thanks
john

Hi john,

yes indeed, we have the same issue and we have a lot of screens. there is no way to turn off the screens at the weekends other that setting each 'on' timer to off every friday then remembering to turn them all on on monday.. it would be great if there was a master on/off option or better still a weekday only option on the schedule-this has been mentioned somewhere else on this forum before, if i remember right.

so.. samsung, that's a request for the next update of magicinfo pro :-)

a weekday option in the schedule.

btw, you can set a blank screen in the schedule before and after the on times that keeps the screens turnedoff but then the database starts getting sluggish when lots of schedules are contained within it...

cheers-eric.

Just had a thought (tried it briefly but does not seem to work)

if the screen wakes up with wol then there are plenty of wol dos exe's out there.

i found a few and thought that i could just setup some scheduled tasks on the pc running magicinfo, this would run a wol exe to wake the screen up but it does not seem to work, always errors with unable to bind to card etc.

there are also plenty of remote shutdown apps for xp which i'm sure would put the screen to standby.

anyone have any ideas on this wol issue?

Posted by John on Apr. 24 2009,4:21
Have just figured out the wol.  i found a dos based exe that works a treat!

only issue i have now is a shutdown.  i see that when you select 'power off' in magicinfopro the screen goes to a 'please wait' then goes into standby.  any method i try actually shows and performs a full xp shutdown.

what command is sent to the screen to do this, ie can i mimic this through dos?

Posted by Guest on Apr. 27 2009,8:45
Do you really need to have something else to shut it down?

disable the "turn on" timer and use your wol exe to turn the screen on. then leave the "turn off" timer enabled as normal. on the days your screen is running it will get turned off as normal, and the days you don't have it on won't be affected because it can't be turned off if its not on in the first place...

Posted by TonyV on Apr. 27 2009,7:40
There is a feature you can use to turn the screens off at a scheduled time.
create a screen called paneloff
under the screen choose source list then under source list choose panel off.

you can then schedule this screen whenever you want.

hope this helps.

this feature actually displays a screen with a black background. if you look at the power light on your screens when using this you will notice that it is still green (meaning on). when the screen is turned off using the off timer the light turns orange. (at least on my model).

also, if you try to vnc into the screen whilst it is running "paneloff" you will still be able to, and you will be able to minimise the "paneloff" screen to see the desktop (proving it's just a screen with a black baground).

i was dissapointed when i realised this was all the feature did, as  i too have the same problem with weekends.

Posted by EricL on Apr. 28 2009,11:46
Hi daniel,

you are right when you say the panel is still on but what is important is that the backlight on the panel is extinguished when using the paneloff.

so what this means is that you can remote to the pc and do any work you need to do without it being observed by someone looking at the display.

if you can live with the computer running at the weekends but the lc display panel effectively being off then this will solve your problem.

however, we run many panels and have found scheduling the paneloff either side of the actual daily show means the database fills up with paneloff schedules and becomes sluggish.

i would prefer to see a weekday option on the daily/weekly/monthly setting.

Hi ericl,

i didn't realise the backlight was turned off. when i vnc into the screen i get a black screen until i use the windows key + d to minimize the black background. therefore i thought it was displaying the black background on the screen just as it would if the background was a different colour or an image.

for the same reason i still thought that when using that feature people would still see what i was doing because the black screen had been minimised. i've never tried it from a position where i can physically see the screen. i'll have to give it a go, thanks.

I'm still having issues with this.  we are experiencing people (mostly staff) who turn the screen off at the wall some evenings, we have found that them doing this then causes the time to go blank on the screen.  it therefore renders the internal on/off time useless, someone would switch it on and it would never go off (we've just realised that its been on for 4days straight!)

as before i have a working solution to switch the screen on (using a wol utilitiy) but cannot seem to find an effective one to shut it down.  ive tried a few around the internet including psshutdown and xp built in one but this causes the screen to go blank and it never seems to actually go into standby.

does anyone know what magicinfo actually sends to the screen when you select 'switch off' against a screen?

its a pity the screen instantly looses the current time

any help appreciated
cheers

An update on this.  ive just noticed a section in magicinfo when in remote management, click on tools then management.  click ok on the warning box you are then presented with all the rdc commands including the power on and power off commands it sends (in hex)

i'm a bit lost as i'm not a programmer but i see that the command is 0x11 for power and the data is 0x00 for power off.  anyone any ideas how to bundle something together in an exe that can run from dos?

cheers

never noticed this tab before, i get the window but no information about commands just empty drop down boxes, all the screens are listed though for selecting-any idea how to get the commands visible?

Just seems to work with me.  make sure you are on the rdc tab when within remote management. i could attach a pic but this board has that feature disabled.

Hey all, i have a 6 panel installation of 400dxn's running magicnet pro. i have a "server" that has the software installed and working fine. i can see the panels, push out content etc..

my problem is that magicnet pro works perfectly when i login as the user that set it all up "support" in this case, but if i create another user, make them a member of the administrators group, when they login to windows, open and login as administrator on magicnet pro, they see the panels but can't control them. everything is greyed out.

i called samsung, but all he said is, it should work you are using a vpn and that is why...

i am not using a vpn, or anything that would lead me to believe that this shouldn't work. it appears as if the configuration information (ip etc) is stuck in the user's profile, and when i login as the other user they obviously wouldn't be able to use it.

any ideas?

Posted by EricL on Jun. 11 2009,2:10
Hi, just a thought-do your users have windows administrator rights as well as being a member of the magicnet pro administrator group?

i have tried to reproduce your problem but it seems ok on our machines..

Hello. when i returned to work today from new year's break our magicnet pro software has been acting up something fierce. it's still seeing our five tvs fine, but whenever i try to click anywhere in the schedule area of the program, it'll lock up, my cpu usage goes to 50% and it'll stay like that for about 30 seconds then i get control again. it has never done this before and i have no idea what is causing it.

i've uninstalled and reinstalled the software, no difference. i even opened a brand new 400dxn (we're in the process of putting up more) and hooked it up to a laptop with a crossover cable, fresh install of magicnet info, and it's giving me the same problem!

it had been working perfectly before 2009. my software version is 1001.2. i know a patch had been issued way back in jan 08 and we did install that the first time we did this, but now i can't even get that off of samsung's site. could it be a year issue? do i have to wait for a 2009 patch?

i can still make a schedule and send it out to the tvs, it just takes about 20 minutes longer now (and sometimes it'll lock up forever). any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Posted by SignWizard on Jan. 05 2009,10:42
Hi, at first i would have put it down to a corrupt database but if you have done a clean install on a new machine i don't think it could be that..

we returned to work today and all the screens came up without a problem, we are running the latest version on the server and clients with a standard pc running xp as a server.

i suggest you contact your hardware supplier for the latest software from samsung corporate.

if you give them the serial number of one of your screens i am certain they will give you download access to the latest software.

in my experience they have always proved very helpful once you get through to the correct technical people.

let me know how you get on;-)

The only time i have seen this happen is with a long or complicated schedule. for some reason once a schedule reaches a certain number of enteries the whole thing bogs down.

for us what seemed a simple schedule (2 templates an hour, 12 hours a day for 14 days on 3 screens) resulted in a simular situation to yours.

try just scheduling one template on one screen for an hour and see if you stil get the problem.

Posted by Lister on Jan. 07 2009,12:26
We have seen simular problems with scheduling. we used to run a schedule that was two templates per hour for 12 hours for 14 days on 3 screens. this resulted in a simular slow down.

amending the schedule took about 30 seconds to update and publishing took a good 5 minutes.  most of the time it sat at 95% even though it was actually showing the content. only thing we could think of was it was compiling the schedule the whole time.

have you tried just publishing just a simple schedule, say 1 template with only one item for 2 hours to each screen?

Posted by noop on Jan. 13 2009,10:19
Hi, just a thought, when we have problems with the schedules overwriting the original we have found using the clear facility (the bin icon on the toolbar) before resending the new schedule data often works.

if not try remoting to the client (using a full version of vnc external to the server software so you can take full control of the client screen) then manually delete all the old files related to the schedule.

if it helps let me know as it seems to be a problem for a few people on here.

Error msg is file not found or corrupt hal.dll in system32 direcotry (paraphrased)

tried to boot to bootable cd and see if i could fix the problem by copying files from my other display. system will not boot to usb cd.

tried to get into the bios to enable boot to cd but can not figure out how to get into the bios on a samsung dxn400.

anyone got any ideas?

Posted by Roach on Mar. 30 2009,5:08
Had the same problem multiple of times.

1. you need to get into the bios screen at bootup (f2 or del at samsung splash screen) and set your boot device to usb cdrom.
2. i found that you need to set the usb cdrom to your first or second usb port, not the third one.  i don't know why, it just finally worked for us.
3. we never got a installer cd so we had to clone the hd from a similar model we had on hand.  we did this via dd commands when we booted up from knoppix or you use some disc cloner.  we eventually uploaded the image to a lan ftp server because this is a very frequent problem with our 400dxn's.

for what it's worth, our support people said that samsung's official answer to this is to replace the motherboard for the winxpe.  this requires taking down the monitor, unscrewing the back panel, and swaping out the board.  not the easiest thing to do and definitely a two man job.

I am slowly getting my head around my 400dxn, seems a great piece of kit!

however, the main purpose of this is to run a slideshow or powerpoint.

i can add pictures through the screen editor but this just seems to be 1 picture at a time and no slideshow (even though i can add more than one to the list?)

i have also tried adding a powerpoint.  when i publish this to the screen its just black.  do i need to install a plugin on the tv for this to work?

cheers
john

Posted by Admin on Mar. 11 2009,7:04
You need to add a powerpoint viewer on the client (tv) so it will play :-) put powerpoint viewer 2003 into google and you will find it-it is a free download from microsoft.
Posted by John on Mar. 11 2009,7:32
Thanks, i'll give that a go tomorrow.

is there any way to run a picture slideshow from within magicinfo (rather than using powerpoint)?

i see you can add individual pictures but the program gives the impression that it will roll onto the next as you can add more than one to a single picture object.   i have tried this but it only shows the first picture and never moves on.  it's maybe part of the software and nothing more but i would like some sort of confirmation.

Posted by EricL on Mar. 12 2009,12:00
Add your pictures to the library first, then in the screen view make a new photo area, then click on 'screen' on the left hand tree menu, then click on photo file, the sub menu that appears under screen. now at the bottom you will see an empty window appear-right click in the window and add the images you want in the order you want them to appear-the rest such as timing, effects etc. should be pretty simple then...   hope you get it, if not come back and i will try to help you.

ericl

Posted by Admin on Mar. 12 2009,12:19
Worth pointing out here-you need to change the default timing of the slides from 0 to a1 or above otherwise the slide show will not do anything-hope that helps.

Having issues showing powerpoint presentations through the magicnetpro scheduler.
we had this up and running a powerpoint presentation for about 3 weeks flawlessly.

on friday the display went to the magicnet pro "screen saver".
we had a schedule set for the remainder of the month.

now when we schedule a powerpoint the display turns completely black.
we tried an image through the scheduler and get the same black screen.

powerpoint runs fine when in player mode. it seems like only when anything is scheduled through magicnet pro.

the only other thing that has changed is the original machine the powerpoint was scheduled through magicnet pro "crashed" - the literature said
multiple machines can used to schedule.

i tried contacting samsung but keep getting put on hold and then cut off.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

john

Posted by JonNuttNTL on Mar. 18 2009,10:10
Have you tried to clear the schedule first before publishing the new content?

also check the time of the pushed schedule on the server, this sometimes catches you out.

For some reason i encounter one problem after the next with these screens, perhaps my frustration has taken the better half of me and i can't think clearly. i am trying to setup a screen profile so that i can schedule an office item to come up. i have the codec for ppt on the monitor and all. when i am in the screen module i only have background>screens>picture/color/source. yet every resource i have found has another item in that tree, "office". now i can add a content area for office but when i publish it and my schedule comes up, all i get is the background color deal. can anyone point me in the right direction or perhaps knows what is going on and can give me a clue. thanks
-hopeless gambetti

Posted by EricL on Jan. 20 2009,5:47
I think i see where you're coming from :-)  ok, when you use office files you must ensure first of all you have the relevant office reader/player on the client-these are available free for downloading-look for powerpoint player for example in google. now, the office file basically uses the background of the screen as it's formost layer-i don't think you can resize it i think it will only play full screen. therefore the other options are not available to use.

what we do is convert powerpoint files to flash then you can add it into a screen template any size you want and get it to play around the other objects on the screen..

if i have this wrong then i stand corrected, but i think it's so...

just rereading your question-have you added the file to the library then linked it to the area box you have created so the server knows what to send to the client?--stick at it, it all makes sense in the end

Posted by Gambetti09 on Jan. 20 2009,7:22
I might try the flash. i have the ppt player installed on the client and when using the player from magicinfo i can get a ppt to come up. but when i use the shceduler nothing seems to come up. when i set the screen template the background color comes up but the powerpoint does not. the background tree does not have an office option so i have to create another area for some reason.
Posted by Gambetti09 on Jan. 20 2009,10:16
Now my library doesnt seem to push the content as it previously did. this software has not only been frustrating but buggy without cause. is this really the latest greatest for digital signage with all the advances we currently have??
Posted by Celebration on Jan. 26 2009,10:10
There is a way of showing office files in a window rather than full screen.
samsung gave me pdf instructions to make this work.
send me your email address so i can send it to you.

Posted by Lister on Jan. 26 2009,10:34
Hi,

note on powerpoint, it is possible to run it in a window.

open the powerpoint file click on silde show / setup slide show - under 'show type' select browesd by individual (window) and untick scroll bars.

save your file and republish it to the screen. it will now stay within the area you allocated in the template. this should work regardless of using the player or a full powerpoint install.

Hi,

i'm trying to set up an excel file in magicnet pro 1003.1.

i've created a new screen, set the the background as an office file, imported the excel file into the library and attached it to the screen but i can't seem to preview it. when i try to do so, the screen just displays the path of the file in red writing.

i have ms office installed on the server as well as the ms office excel 2003 viewer so shouldn't i be able to preview this on the server?

thanks to anyone who can help.

Posted by Admin on Mar. 12 2009,12:16
You can't preview office files, it will just show the path to the file.
Posted by jimwon on Mar. 12 2009,1:09
Thanks for answering, i guess that explains that.

now i have the following issue:

i've installed the ms excel viewer on the client and tried to publish a screen to it, but it doesn't seem to work. when i hit publish, although the green progress bar fills up the "publishing...." text never turns into into "publish complete" and the magicnet software eventually hangs. if i remote into the screen while this is happening it is displaying the source path of the excel file but not the file itself. the file is only 40kb.

any further advice?

Posted by Admin on Mar. 12 2009,4:18
Did you add it to the library first then link it in the screen window?
Posted by jimwon on Mar. 12 2009,5:27
Yes.

i've created a blank screen, set the "screen" options so it is "type - office file" and the "office file" is linked to the imported excel file in the library.

i have tried publishing with the following combinations:

transfer mode set as "download" or as "stream".
ewf files on the client screen enabled and disabled.

after this didn't work i created a mirror of the excel file on the client screen and tried the same combinations again - still no luck. the only thing the client screen will display is the file path.

if the transfer mode is set to download the gren publishing bar fills up but the status never reaches "publish complete". if it set to "stream" the progress bar doesn't fill up either.

i've tried it with several excel files, including a blank one and get the same result.

i'm not scheduling anything complicated, just a single full day of this one screen.

any help you could give or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I came across the same issue with my dxn.  i removed the old client software and ran the new setup from the website.  all seemed ok but the software would not run.  you double clicked the shortcut and nothing would happen.  luckily i took a copy of the samsung folder from program files so i put that back and it worked (old version).  the server then picked it up and updated it itself.

I may sound a little dense here, but could someone please explain what magicinfo pro-e is? i have seen the upgrade tab on the website, but do not know what (if any) differences there are between this version and that supplied on my dxn screen? also, can the upgrade be loaded onto older (pxn0 screens to enable them to work under the magicinfo environment?

John, i have the same problem with my sm400dxn (windows xp embedded). the setup runs and seemed ok but the application won't run.

i also tried it on a windows xp pro sp2 and windows xp pro sp3 and the result is the same.

i think that the software is maybe looking for a bios requirement like a version number of the hardware. maybe samsung made it to disable possibility to install it on screens made before a certain date...
